São João da Pesqueira ((:sɐ̃w ʒuˈɐ̃w dɐ pɨʃˈkɐjɾɐ)) is a town and municipality in the district of Viseu in Portugal. The municipality comprises the town of São João da Pesqueira, which is the seat of the municipality, and a number of nearby villages, organized into parishes (''frequesias'') as listed below. The population of the entire municipality in 2011 was 7,874,〔(Instituto Nacional de Estatística )〕 in an area of 266.11 km².〔(Direção-Geral do Território )〕 Its altitude is 850m. The present mayor is António Lima Costa, elected by the Social Democratic Party. The municipal holiday is June 24. ==Location== The municipality is bordered on the north by the River Douro and the municipality of Alijó, on the northeast by Carrazeda de Ansiães, on the east by Vila Nova de Foz Côa (district of Guarda), on the south-east by Penedono, on the south by Sernancelhe, on the west by Tabuaço and on the north-west by Sabrosa.
